Gotta Collect Em All

We seek to make things more and more convenient. But is it possible that convenience is a zero-sum game?

This is something I think about whenever I use a pair of bluetooth earbuds or headphones. Yes, it’s more convenient in a lot of ways than in the old days: with a wire that could get in the way, get tangled, pull your phone or laptop off a table, etc.

Yet, the inconvenience of a wire has been replaced by a number of other inconveniences. You need to remember to charge wireless headphones, for example. And if they’re the true wireless kind, you need to remember to charge the thing that charges them.

And that’s just the user error side of things. They’re also tiny pieces of technology doing something that is, when you think about it, extremely complicated. Both the thing transmitting the bluetooth audio and the thing receiving it are running a whole slew of nano-functions, all of which are required for you to hear the new episode of some stupid podcast. Any one of those nano-functions fails, and you’re out of luck.

Then there’s the issue of finding the right headphones. Some have deeper bass. Some have stronger drivers. Some are lighter. Some fit in your ears better. Some have great battery life.

It’s all enough to leave you nostalgic for the days when all you had to do was find a pair of headphones that worked and plug them into the headphone jack.

But there is a solution, a way to experience the convenience of wireless headphones along with the ol’ reliable convenience of headphones from back in the day: you have to own a shitload of them.

And these ones we’re selling today could be the latest addition to your collection.

They’re Anker, so you know they’ll have crazy battery life and will sound somewhere between very nice and excellent. They’re waterproof so you can use them in the rain (or for a seriously sweaty run/bike ride/walk) without worrying about them shorting out. And they’re good for phone calls, which is something I learned reading Amazon reviews like this one, from user KingMDM:

This is 1st set where callers have never complained about not being able to clearly hear my voice!

So maybe get them and use them as your phone call headphones! Or your workout headphones! Or your listening to music while doing dishes headphones! Or your pair of headphones for when a weird firmware issue renders your others kaput right before you head to the airport to take a long flight.

For $18, you won’t mind letting them wait until they’re needed.
