The attic is alit only by the faint glow of your phone’s flashlight. There are boxes here too. So many more boxes. Whatever kind of presence haunts this strange house by the road on which your car broke down, it sure likes to shop.
You find mixing bowls in one box and shudder. What terrible plans does it have for these? You envision a ghastly warlock, adding a mess of eyes to one, pouring in a compound from a beaker, and then stirring it until putrid green smoke rises to the ceiling.
It laughs, the monster in your vision, as if this is all a cruel joke, as if humankind is to it a punch line and our days occupying this plane without fear are soon to come to an end.
You put the mixing bowls back and look further into the attic.
