Someone Will Want It
If you’re a frequent Meh shopper, you know what an air fryer is. It’s a kitchen appliance that gives you that delicious golden brown crunch without all the oil. But this one does a lot more than that. It doesn’t just fry. It bakes, dehydrates, roasts, and even has a built-in rotisserie. Plus, it comes with a whole jumble of accessories that make it super convenient to use.
Maybe this is all perfect for you. Maybe you’re in the market for an air fryer. Or maybe you’re looking for something a little more advanced than a microwave to heat up leftovers. Or maybe your rotisserie chicken budget is through the roof and so you’re looking for a more economical option than going to the grocery store every time you need your fix.
If all or any of this is true, then great. Buy this air fryer. Enjoy it.
And yet, I’m sure a fair number of you are on the fence. Not because it doesn’t sound cool. It does sound cool. Really cool. But so does every other kitchen appliance, right? And with your Instant Pot and your sous vide water oven and your Nespresso machine, it’s like… do you want another thing crowding your counter? Furthermore, what if you get it and use it once and you don’t really get hooked? You’ll have wasted your money, right?

The basic principle here is that roughly 10-40% of all kitchen appliances in your kitchen are things you purchased yourself. The rest you receive as part of a never-ending cycle of regifting and handing down.
My kitchen is a perfect example. We got our toaster, our electric kettle, and our Chemex for our wedding, and our blender for Christmas. Our KitchenAid mixer and our bread machine we got when my wife’s aunt decided to simplify her kitchen. Our pressure cooker was given to my mother-in-law, but she never used it so we took it. Since the pressure cooker does slow cooking, my wife gave our slow cooker to a coworker, and when we were gifted another pressure cooker, we gave that to friends in the area, who in return lent us their food mill to make apple butter (“lent” being a relative term; it’s still in our closet). The only thing we bought ourselves is the microwave and the wood pellet outdoor pizza oven.
What I’m getting at is: even if you buy this air fryer, don’t like it, and give it to a friend, that’s not money down the drain. It’s a contribution to a healthy system of voluntary kitchen appliance redistribution, one from which we all benefit!
