Texture Is Important

Often, when I finish making a meal from scratch, I feel almost a little intoxicated. And it’s not just from the mandatory cooking beer I drank, either.

There’s something about standing over the hot pans, about putting all the stuff in at just the right moment, about tasting and adding a little more salt, or a little more heat, or nodding to yourself, satisfied you got it just right. It’s one of those amazing things that frees you from your thoughts while enriching your mind. You unlock the secret to so many flavors you’ve loved but have never been able to place, without getting bogged down intellectually. It’s beautiful, really.

But I’m not saying this because I want to inspire you to cook more. No, what I’m saying is that I’m someone who loves to cook… and even I think cooking fucking sucks sometimes.

Like, when I finish with a bunch of work, and it’s 5 o’clock, and all I want to do is kick my feet up and turn on a show, or go for a run, or play a game on my phone, or read–and then I remember: if I’m actually going to get dinner on the table before 9, I needed to start chopping onions and cubing pork twenty minutes ago.

And so, there are days I just want to heat up some leftovers, or to take a leisurely stroll down the frozen foods aisle and get something that I can put in the oven and forget about until the timer dings.

The problem? Texture. We’re talking rubbery fried chicken, soggy pizza slices, nasty limp fries, stuff that harkens back to the hastily-prepared cafeteria food of your youth.

That’s why these non-stick oven crisper trays are such a great investment. You get 2 of them–one bigger, one a little smaller–for just $10. That way, you can load those frozen tenders or onion rings or Pizza Bagels right onto it, turn on the oven (to 450 degrees or less), and get a nice good crisp without firing up the deep fryer.

And then you can enjoy food that tastes–and feels–like you expect it to! Easy as that.
