2-for-Tuesday: Smith & Wesson Black Tanto Tactical Knife

  • You get a pair of knives that have handles and blades and everything
  • We’re not sure how much the Smith & Wesson name really adds here, but like our grandma always used to say, “When in doubt, buy the cheap knives that have bothered to license a recognizable brand name”
  • At this price, you can use the hell out of it without worrying too much about damaging the heirloom value of your big investment
  • 3.3" stainless steel tanto blade, liner lock, rubber coated handle, no assisted opening: fine, there, we told you some actual facts about these knives
  • Model: CKTACBCP (is the T for “tactical” or “tanto”? is the B for “black” or “blade”? a sense of mystery permeates this alphabet soup of a model number)

How much was that sticker on the window?

“Protected by Smith & Wesson.” As Americans with a keen sense of vigilance and/or humor know, that window decal is the cheapest way to erect the protective cordon of the mighty Smith & Wesson name.

Or is it?

This two-pack of Smith & Wesson Black Tanto Tactical Knives cuts it close (LOL). A casual perusal of the unauthorized-logo-window-decal marketplace finds that a “Protected by Smith & Wesson” sticker will run you about four bucks before shipping on eBay or Etsy.

Here you get two of these knives for ten bucks. Unlike those stickers, they’re actually authorized to use the Smith & Wesson name.

Oh, yeah, and they cut things.

Would we depend on them in a survival situation? No, but then we’re the types of people who, if we’re in a situation where our survival depends on a knife, it’s already far too late for any knife to save us.

Otherwise they’re decent enough knives for dealing with life’s little knots and envelopes, with a 3.3" stainless steel tanto blade and a rubber-coated handle. At least one guy on Amazon swears by them for EDC use.

Of course, if this knife is tucked away in your pocket, you’re not going to benefit from the deterrent effect of the Smith & Wesson name. For that, you’ll need some other item to call attention to the fact that you’re carrying a Smith & Wesson. Maybe a t-shirt.
