We’re not selling this deal anymore, but you can buy it at Amazon

2-for-Tuesday: Sennheiser Adidas OMX 680 & 680i In-Ear Headphones

  • You get a 2-pack of Sennheiser Adidas OMX earbuds.
  • The Adidas part means they’re “sporty.”
  • But you should know…
  • The 680’s volume control works with Android phones;
  • Whereas the 680i’s volume control works with iPhones.
  • Choose wisely. Or not very wisely. Seriously, this is not a difficult choice.
  • Model Number: Apparently, according to Amazon, it’s OMX 680i Sports or OMX 680. Don’t get us wrong, we love a good clear product number… but c’mon, Sennheiser! You can do better!

i Will Remember

I’ve written before about how I buy pretty much every pair of earbuds we sell on here (especially when they come in cheap 2-packs like this). I don’t need to go through all of that again. It’s pretty simple, really: in terms of earbuds crapping it’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’, and so you want to have some backups. Extra points if those backups aren’t the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel. You know what I mean: the $10 placeholder buds purchased from a pharmacy so you can go for a jog in the days while you await your better buds’ delivery.

Like I said, I won’t get into it… anymore than I just did. Because we’ve got something far more important to discuss. You’ll notice that you have a choice in this sale between the Sennheiser Adidas OMX 680 and the Sennheiser Adidas OMX 680i. What’s the difference, you wonder? Almost nothing, except for one crucial feature:

  • With the 680, the volume controls only work on Android devices.

  • With the 680i, the volume controls only work on iPhones.

But obviously, just stating something like this isn’t enough. What if you consider your purchase for the whole day and return late at night in such a rush that you don’t even have time to glance at the write-up or the features? You could get the wrong model and end up with a limp useless volume control!

Luckily, there’s an easy way to remember which is which: ‘i’, the letter, is a homophone for ‘eye.’ The ‘apple of one’s eye’ is a phrase that refers to something someone loves above all other things. That it contains the word ‘apple’ is convenient for this exercise, as it expresses the level of reverence many tech enthusiasts reserve for their favorite Apple device. An android, meanwhile, does not have eyes at all. What would appear, on their face, to be eyes are anatomically no such thing. Their vision would likely be achieved by way of some sort of camera-and-sonar combination. Thus, it follows that the Android device requires no i.

Hopefully this helps you remember which buds are which so that you will make the correct purchase. But if you have your own way of remembering this critical difference, don’t hesitate to post in the comments, especially if it’s simpler than mine (though I doubt that’s possible).
