  • One is the DiamondClean for $142: the superior model, these feature 5 modes and come with cool glass/charging pad things, 6 brush heads, and charging travel cases.
  • The other is the HealthyWhite for $62: a nice budget option with 3 modes, 2 brush heads, and (non-charging) travel cases.
  • Electric toothbrushes look pricey, but trust us: spending a little extra now to take care of your teeth will save you in the long run.

It's Time

I love trying new foods. I love jogging down different streets and taking in the houses I’ve never seen before. I love exploring new cities on vacation, listening to new music, watching new shows, all that stuff.

But there are things I resist despite my best interests. For example, I refused to get a streaming stick of any kind for about 6 years, choosing instead to HDMI Netflix and NBA League Pass directly from my laptop to my television. And I waited to use the pressure cooker gifted to me for about a 10 months, before trying it out, and marveling at its ability to make pulled pork in 40 minutes.

But there’s no innovation I resisted longer than the electric toothbrush. For literal decades, I heard tell of their superior brushing abilities, yet somehow I ignored it all.

Dental hygienists told me to get one, but I just shrugged their suggestions off, sure that they were in the pockets of Big Brush.

Friends said they loved theirs, but I just shook my head in disgust at how ridiculous gadget culture had grown.

Then we offered a 2-pack of DiamondClean on Meh, and I thought, “Okay, fine, I’ll give it a try.”

And folks, OMG, I can’t believe what I’ve been missing out on all these years! Seriously, I finish every 2-minute, quadrant-divided brushing session convinced that I’ve somehow blacked out and had my teeth replaced with pearls!

Although, to be fair, there’s a chance, had I invested in an electric toothbrush earlier, I would’ve been like, “What’s the big deal?” Because the DiamondClean is the most primo of a primo electric toothbrush brand’s offerings. Like, you’ve got 5 modes to tool around with, 6 brush heads (3 types, 2 of each), charging travel cases, and a cool charger for home that’s basically a pad with a custom fitted glass. (It sounds silly but trust me, it’s cool!)

Still, if the price tag north of $140 is a bit much to handle–is that a pun? Because toothbrushes have a handles?–we’ve got 2-packs of the Sonicare’s HealthyWhite model for $62 as well. What’s the difference? Aside from its being just not as sexy, you also don’t get the cool glass charging glass thing, or the charging travel case (just a basic travel case), and you don’t get as many brush heads (just 2), or as many modes (just 3). But they’re still great electric toothbrushes.

At any rate, if you’ve been on the fence about purchasing an electric toothbrush, let me be the first to tell you: they’re worth the investment!

(Or maybe I won’t be the first to tell you that. Maybe I’ll be the fifth. Or the tenth. Or the thirtieth. Look, it doesn’t matter. What matters is they are good and you should buy them.)
