The Saturday Sign-Up-A-Thon, Part 3

LARRY: You know what’s great about The Saturday Sign-Up-A-Thon? You do some work every Saturday, but the rest of week you’re free to sit in a room with only a computer for company and contemplate how often you’ve taken doors for granted, ha ha. But anyway, enough about that! We’re live again, and we’re not talking about ourselves, or doors, or even the products. We’re talking about you, our newest Meh customers. Because there’s no time like right now to get your friends and neighbors to sign up for Meh.

[LARRY walks over to the computer in the corner.]

LARRY: Now computer, should it be you or me who tells the good people about Membership? You know, the program that gives its members free shipping on Meh, Casemates, and Morningsave, not to mention other great perks? Oh, that’s funny. It appears I’ve already told them! Well, that’s for the better, ha ha. After all, you’re nothing more than a glorified box housing an easily fallible digital mind, ha ha. Of course, you could certainly prove me wrong by pointing me to the door!

COMPUTER: …

LARRY: Well, there you have it, ha ha. Glorified box it is! Now, onto more important matters. Introducing our newest Meh customer, Dr. Fritz Harrington.

[LARRY rushes to the side where guests from which guests usually enter, ready to make his escape. DR. FRITZ enters from the other side in a white lab coat, holding a clipboard. LARRY sighs and shakes his hand begrudgingly.]

LARRY: So tell, me, Dr. Fritz, what brings you to Meh?

DR. FRITZ: Well, I enjoy the deals, which occur on a daily basis.

LARRY: So, you understand this is a daily deal site! That is a huge relief, ha ha.

[DR. FRITZ writes something on his clipboard.]

DR. FRITZ: How huge of a relief would you say it is, Larry? And how about the light quality? How has that affected your mood?

LARRY: Um, I guess… negatively?

[DR. FRITZ writes even more furiously.]

DR. FRITZ: Very interesting, Larry! Now tell me about your sleep? Are you getting enough? Are there dreams? Are there… nightmares?

LARRY: Wait, a minute… I’m starting to think you’re not a Meh customer at all…

DR. FRITZ: [speaking into the lapel of his lab coat] He’s onto us, hit the back button.

[DR. FRITZ waits to dissolve. Nothing happens.]

DR. FRITZ: I said hit the back button!

RADIO VOICE FROM LAPEL: You’ve got too many Meh tabs open!

[LARRY tackles DR. FRITZ. DR. FRITZ tries to squirm away, but LARRY holds him in place.]

LARRY: I want to know what the hell is going on here!

DR. FRITZ: He’s got me! Force quit Chrome! I repeat, force quit Chrome!

RADIO VOICE FROM LAPEL: Are you sure? Such swift reentry can be painful, doctor.

DR. FRITZ: Do it, damnit! Do it now!

RADIO VOICE FROM LAPEL: If you say so. Commencing force quit.

LARRY: I said, I want to know what’s going on!

DR. FRITZ: I’m sorry, Larry. But the research, it’s too valuable. And besides, you haven’t finished your mission yet. You haven’t–

[DR. FRITZ disappears in a blip. LARRY, leaning over nothing, slowly gets to his feet. He wipes off his suit, smiles at the camera.]

LARRY: Well, that was… interesting. One of these times, we’re just going to have a normal well-informed new Meh customer in here. Hopefully next week. Maybe that’s my ‘mission,’ ha ha. What do you say, computer? Is that what I need to do?

COMPUTER: [Screen flickers]

LARRY: What? What was that?! What does it mean?!

COMPUTER: …
