2013 707 Marsanne, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County
This wine is quite unusual and distinctive. I would say that this wine could be consumed instead of an oaky Chardonnay, yet it possesses a dense fruit that is all its own. Marsanne tends to often be blended with Roussanne and/or Viognier, but this particular small lot stood out as a brilliant, stand-alone wine.
This deeply colored white wine is very aromatic. It shows off with ripe peaches and an interesting hint of almond in the nose. This spectacular wine displays a creamy, rich and complex mouthfeel, with a nicely balanced acidity. The mineral flavors are highlighted with baked pears, creamy melon, guava, mango and with a touch of spice that is just perfect. The finish has lots of depth and complexity, and even a tad nutty.
Food Pairings: The 707 Marsanne is the best friend of our charcuterie plate. It pairs quite well with dry salami, pâté, or an inventive cheese board.
Founded in 1981, Chateau Diana is a family-owned winery in the Dry Creek Valley near Healdsburg, California. Established by Tom and Diane Manning, the winery is now owned by their son and daughter, Corey and Dawn, following the traditions, standards, and values set down by their parents.
